You must be all wondering what I listened or have I even listened at all at anything for the last few months. Now you will know how repetitive my habits have become and an alarming crash that I have no idea how it happened in June. Without further ado, here is my report.

Overview

2022 was a depressing year, both for my sanity and my country. I mostly agree with the general consensus that this year is just lackluster and without a doubt one of the most resoundingly annoying soundscape I have ever witnessed in a music industry. The significant majority of songs released in South Korea were fairly mediocre, even hitting as low as F. That said, it seems that other places had an edge, and were not surprisingly bad. There was still some highlights and legacy releases but it was nothing compared to last year, so far.

My listening habits did change since the last year. I had a 23% decrease in unique songs listened; which definitely tells that the current music conditions are far more stuffed, unlike last year. My total plays were up by 16% compared to last year; which tells me that I repeated more with what I did listen to this year compared to last year. In fact, my average plays per track increased by 50%. I get to be a bit possessive of songs that passed the vibe check, in a world increasing of noise.

My most listened songs are absolutely far from what I saw to be the best of the year. Villain and O seem to be the common denominator amongst the two but it goes as far as Top 20, so the Top 10 is really not on my most repeated of the year. I guess you cannot resist the correct execution and the vibe of Villain and O which I will say truly defined my year so far. The soundscapE of Villain and O just is a habit of mine to escape the noisy and anarchic world of music that has come to Korean pop.

I can confidently say that my top 10 picks is probably my new playlist and I cannot deny the power that I have seemingly harnessed. It perfectly balances what I think 2022 will be shaped, my objective favorites, and my personality. Also everything comes with a hint of maximalism, which I just miss. I hope the second part of the year picks up and lets us hear what we need.
